Babcock Ranch Development, Punta Gorda, Florida

DSCN9231

Today we visited Florida’s first solar powered city – I can say – I was impressed. I just loved the whole concept. It is a community oriented town, with a nice town center, a beergarden, restaurants, stores and even a school. The Town will be walkable and bikeable. Community Fee will be around $ 175/Month plus a Master Association Fee of $ 365/year. There is a big lake where people can canoe, paddle or use electric boats. There are also parking spaces with charging stations for electric cars.

Even so the whole City is solar powered – none of the single family homes have solar panels (as of yet). The power comes from Florida Power and Light’s solar field just a little bit down the road.

There are charging stations for golf carts but also electro cars all over the community.

We toured a few of their models – enjoy the pictures:

And we looked at the impressive solar field powering Babcock Ranch

All in all I think it will be a very nice City with a “green” concept.
